Without Google’s approval. Astrophotography and Super Res Zoom modes ported to Google Pixel and Pixel 2

Right after the official release of the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones, Google updated the Google Camera app to version 7.2, introducing a couple of new modes.

Firstly, we are talking about the astrophotography mode, in which users can shoot night landscapes with an impressive level of detail. Google has published an official announcement that older Pixel devices will not receive this innovation. However, XDA-Developers enthusiasts were able to port not only this mode, but also the Super Res Zoom mode, which debuted in Pixel 3, to Pixel smartphones of the first and second generations.

In Super Res Zoom, the camera takes multiple shots of the remote lens as close as possible. Then the algorithm combines them into one picture with a lot of details. This feature was added in last year’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Now it is finally available for older Pixel devices.
