The official premiere of the new flagship single-chip platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 will take place in early December at the Snapdragon Technology Summit 2019 event, which will be held in a fabulous place – in the Hawaiian Islands. Nevertheless, the well-known insider from China has already become aware of the characteristics of the CPU and GPU of this SoC. As you might have guessed, it will use the latest Arm cores – Cortex-A77.
The world’s first platform on the Cortex-A77. Features disclosed Snapdragon 865
According to an insider, the platform’s CPU is represented by one high-performance Cortex-A77 core with a frequency of 2.84 GHz, three Cortex-A77 cores with a frequency of 2.42 GHz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 1.8 GHz. It is interesting that the latter have not changed in comparison with the Snapdragon 855 – the energy-efficient cluster in it is also represented by four Kryo 485 Silver cores (this is the 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55). Adreno 650 with a frequency of 587 MHz will act as the GPU of the new platform.
Interestingly, Huawei in its SoC Kirin 990 rejected the fresh Cortex-A77 cores in favor of their predecessors Cortex-A76 arguing that, firstly, the Cortex-A77 features are excessive for users, and secondly, there are problems with power consumption . It turns out that Qualcomm successfully dealt with this issue. However, in Snapdragon 865, as in the company’s previous top platforms, modified Cortex-A77s will be used – which is why Qualcomm gives them its own notation.
