Yesterday, IDC analytic company released a report for the third quarter of last year related to the European market for smart home devices.
According to analysts, during the reporting period, almost 23.8 million smart home devices of various categories were sold in Europe, which is 18.1% more than in the third quarter of 2018. The largest category is “video entertainment devices,” which occupy 58.2% of the market since 13.8 million units were sold. In second place with 19% of the market are smart speakers, of which 4.5 million units were sold during the quarter – an increase of 36.6% in annual terms. If we add the forecast for the fourth quarter, the share of “device for video entertainment” will be 56.3%, smart speakers – 20.5%. Home monitoring and security tools occupy 10.8%, smart lighting devices – 6.0%, thermostats – 2.7%, all other devices – 3.7%.
Amazon is the market leader in the number of shipped devices. Its products account for 16.4% of supplies. Google is quite a bit behind 15.9%. It is noteworthy that a year ago Google was in first place with 16.9%, and Amazon – in second with 15.3%. Third place, like a year ago, is Samsung. The share of the South Korean manufacturer decreased from 13.4% to 12.4%. The top five also includes LG and Sony with 10.3% and 5.5% respectively. A year ago, their shares were 10.6% and 5.9%, respectively.
