Tesla rival will only buy batteries from LG Chem

Lucid Air sedans are due to start this year.
South Korean company LG Chem today announced that it will be the exclusive supplier of batteries for electric vehicles of the American company Lucid Motors, which plans to begin production of Lucid Air sedans at the end of this year.

“The agreement with LG Chem gives Lucid the best possible way to produce Lucid Air, providing the energy density and cell availability needed to fulfill our promise of best-in-class mileage on a single charge,” said Peter Rawlinson, Lucid Motors CEO and Technical Director ( Peter Rawlinson), commenting on the agreement.

The South Korean battery manufacturer, with General Motors and Volkswagen among its customers, will supply cylindrical batteries for Lucid Air from the second half of this year until 2023.

LG Chem does not disclose the scope of supply and the amount of the contract.
