Sony could be severely affected by coronavirus outbreaks

Commenting on the quarterly report, Sony’s management expressed concern that the ongoing outbreak of the new coronavirus in China could adversely affect the business associated with the release of image sensors. There are four large Sony factories in China. Since there is no accurate assessment of the prospects for the spread of the virus, the company finds it difficult to predict the possible damage.

Sony chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki warned that an outbreak of coronavirus could “nullify the revised profit forecast” based on high demand for image sensors. According to him, an outbreak of coronavirus can disrupt the work of production and the supply chain, as a result of which the areas of activity associated with the release of image sensors and electronics can “suffer greatly”.

Coronavirus outbreaks could also affect the release of Sony PlayStation 4 consoles.
