Smartphones will replace not only wallets, but also documents

Thanks to the new Android feature.
On single-chip systems Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765 / 765G, we yesterday learned everything about their basic functions and parameters. However, something interesting remained behind the scenes.

It is reported that these platforms were the first on the market with support for the Android Identity Credential API. Android Identity Credential is a platform within the Android operating system that allows you to safely store digital copies of your identity card. For example, a driver’s license, passport and other similar documents.

Details about this development by Google are still few, and it is unclear when such technology will be implemented in smartphones. But this will happen no earlier than the second half of next year, since it will be implemented only in Android R. In addition, for such documents to be valid, the laws of one country or another should imply this. In any case, supporting the technology at the hardware level is the first step towards introducing a new feature into mass-produced products.
