Robots will assemble Xiaomi smartphones 60% faster than humans

Xiaomi is preparing a new generation of fully automated factories.
At yesterday’s Interview in the Cloud press conference, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced the completion of the first phase of the construction of an experimental automated smartphone assembly factory.

This factory is located in Yizhuang, while, according to the leader of Xiaomi, “the degree of automation is very high.” Lei Jun also said that Xiaomi is preparing a new generation of fully automated plants, which will assemble the company’s products.

Lei Jun said that the company created a special unit a couple of years ago, which works in this direction. The new automated plant is ready for opening, however, due to an outbreak of coronavirus in the country, plans have to be changed.

The epidemic situation slows down the process, but our pilot project is very automated. The first phase of the production line in Yizhuang is completed, we are building the next generation fully automated factory.

Sources say the plant will use technologies such as automated production lines and 5G networks, which should significantly increase production efficiency. It will automatically produce 60 smartphones per minute, which is 60% more than in traditional factories. An official statement from Xiaomi says that the factory in Yizhuang is experimental. This means that he is not yet ready for mass production of mobile phones.
