Quantum Acquires One of Western Digital’s Businesses

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Quantum has announced an agreement with Western Digital Technologies, a subsidiary of Western Digital, under which Quantum will acquire its ActiveScale object storage business.

According to the buyer, the addition of the ActiveScale product line and specialists will expand the Quantum software portfolio and increase the presence of object storage in the market. In the words of the press release, Quantum hopes to “strengthen the leadership role in storing and managing video and unstructured data using a software approach.” The parties to the agreement promise that the transfer of business will be seamless for customers, and Quantum plans to not only provide ongoing support for ActiveScale products, but also expresses its commitment to invest in expanding its ActiveScale product line.

The transaction is expected to be completed by March 31, 2020, subject to normal closing conditions. Her financial conditions were not disclosed.
