Netflix is popular not only in the USA and Canada.
Netflix has filed documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In these documents, the service for the first time cited statistics of subscribers by region of the world. According to the source, the inclusion of user and revenue information by region shows how important markets outside the US have become, especially when Netflix faces growing competition. The report presents data for five regions: USA and Canada; Europe, the Middle East and Africa; Asian-Pacific area; Latin America.
More than half of the 158 million Netflix subscribers in the world and 90% of the growth is currently not in the United States. Compared to the first quarter of 2017, the number of subscribers in the European Region increased by 140%. The number of subscribers in the Asia-Pacific region has more than tripled over the same period, and approximately doubled in Latin America.
However, in the USA and Canada, more Netflix users are still concentrated than in any other region – 67.1 million people. For the first three quarters of 2019, the North American market brought the company $ 7.4 billion. Compared to the first quarter of 2017, the number of subscribers in this region grew by only 23%.
As Netflix faces growing competition from new streaming platforms such as Disney +, Apple TV + and HBO Max, growth in the saturated US and Canada markets may slow down even more, so the company will focus on promoting its streaming service in other countries.
