On November 4, Paris hosted the seventh annual innovation day of Huawei Innovation Day. Xu Wenwei, director of the Huawei Institute for Strategic Studies, said at a news conference that the number of employees in the research and development department of Huawei reaches 80,000 people worldwide. Interestingly, they make up about 45% of the entire staff of Huawei.
Xu Wenwei said that Huawei maintains its innovative viability and competitiveness through long-term and sustainable investment in research and development. In 2018, Huawei’s R&D investment exceeded $ 15 billion. In the European Union’s ranking of R&D investment in industrial production in 2018, Huawei ranked fifth in the world.
A spokesman for Huawei also said that back in 1996, the company realized that the cost of preliminary research accounted for more than 10% of the cost of all research and development. Now you need to increase the cost of preliminary research up to 20%. This means that the company spends about $ 3 billion annually on preliminary research.
In the coming years, Huawei plans to introduce open artificial intelligence, intelligent computing systems and deep learning systems in Europe.
