Microsoft has announced its plans to conserve biodiversity and natural ecosystems through the AI for Earth program.
As a key “chip” Microsoft presented the so-called “Planetary Computer.” This is a new open computing platform that will provide scientists, environmentalists, organizations and states with the ability to quickly access Earth state data.
Planetary Computer is an artificial intelligence platform based on the Microsoft Azure cloud that uses machine learning to analyze data from various sources.
According to Microsoft, based on this information, it will be possible to monitor changes in the ecosystem and make more rational decisions on the use of natural resources. For example, track changes in forest size, assess flood risks, and more. Any person on the planet will be able to view, update or supplement this information.
Microsoft’s partner in the creation of the “Planetary Computer” will be Esri, specializing in geographic information systems.
