Microsoft Announces “New Retail Approach”

Microsoft today announced a strategic change in its retail business. In particular, all Microsoft Store branded stores will be closed. It is assumed that members of the company’s retail team “will continue to serve customers from Microsoft corporate offices and remotely provide sales, training and support.”

Microsoft plans to continue investing in its storefronts on Microsoft.com and stores on Xbox and Windows. The company will also change the operation of Experience Centers in London, New York, Sydney and Redmond.

According to the company, the closure of the Microsoft Store in the field will result in expenses of $ 450 million, which will be reflected in the report for the current quarter ending June 30. First of all, they are caused by depreciation and write-off of assets.

In fact, the Microsoft Store has been closed since the end of March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
