Mercedes-Benz and Bosch begin trial operation of self-driving cars on public roads

Daimler announced that Mercedes-Benz and Bosch have jointly begun testing Mercedes-Benz S-Class self-driving cars on public roads. The city of San Jose in the United States was chosen as the site for the pilot project. Taxi cars connect the western and central parts of the city.

At first, the service will be available to a limited group of users, and drivers who are driving to ensure safety will monitor the behavior of automation.

The partners hope with the help of a pilot project to obtain the information necessary for the further development of the SAE Level 4/5 self-governing movement system. In addition, the data collected may be useful for integrating self-driving cars into the urban transport system.
