Telefonica Deutschland, one of three German mobile operators, will build a 5G network in Germany using Ericsson equipment. According to the operator, known on the market as O2, the choice in favor of the Swedish supplier will ensure the security of the next generation network.
“As a network operator serving most mobile customers in Germany, we have a special social responsibility for network security,” said Markus Haas, CEO of Telefonica Deutschland.
According to the source, Telefonica Deutschland and its competitors represented by Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone are removing Huawei equipment from their core networks, while continuing to rely on it in the less critical part – the radio access network, which will have to connect to the 5G network.
Telefonica Deutschland expects to fully build its 5G core network this year.
