China expects to sell as many 5G smartphones in 2020 as the rest of the world.
According to Taiwanese developers of integrated circuits, in 2020 the main segment of smartphones with support for 5G networks in China will form middle-class models, which will cost about 4,000 yuan ($ 570).
In terms of sales, such devices will be three to four times higher than the upper segment models, which will cost 12-25% more.
Industry sources predict that in 2020 global shipments of 5G smartphones will reach 200 million units, with about half of the total coming from China.
Among suppliers of single-chip systems (SoC) for smartphones with support for 5G, Samsung Electronics and Unisoc are paying more attention to solutions for mid-range devices. Qualcomm and MediaTek are targeting the high end. Now they are leading suppliers, having the ability to ship up to 1 million SoC per month in the first quarter of 2020 with an increase in supply to 5 million per month in the second half of the year.
