Huawei, Honor and Sony against 100-megapixel smartphones

It’s too early to use similar sensors in smartphones.
Last year, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 smartphone appeared on the market, which is equipped with an image sensor with a resolution of 108 megapixels. Xiaomi Mi 10 and Samsung Galaxy S20 with cameras of the same resolution will be released very soon.

However, companies such as Huawei, Honor and Sony believe that 100-megapixel image sensors are not the right choice for smartphones, at least for now. Sources at Sony have denied the recent rumor that Sony is making another 100-megapixel sensor for smartphones. Previously, the company has already said that it is too early to use such sensors in smartphones.

At a resolution of 108 megapixels, the pixel size is 0.8 microns. Sony and Honor believe that only with a pixel size of more than 1 μm can the typical photosensitivity and image quality necessary for the flagship be ensured. In 2020, the flagships of Huawei and Honor will use large base pixels.

From previous rumors that the Huawei P40 Pro will be equipped with a custom-made sensor with a resolution of 52 megapixels manufactured by Sony.
