Xiaomi has already released a couple of 5G smartphones, including Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G and Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G, but the Redmi division has just announced its plans to release the first 5G smartphone.
Up to this point, it was not known on the basis of which single-chip system the first Redmi smartphone with support for fifth-generation networks will be built, however, almost everyone was sure that this was a Qualcomm Snapdragon family platform.
Now, a trusted Chinese insider, nicknamed Digital Chat Station, has reported on Weibo social network that the partnership between Redmi and MediaTek after the success of Redmi Note 8 Pro is secured by a new contract. The source claims that the Redmi 5G smartphone will be built on the basis of a single-chip MediaTek system.
MediaTek already has a 5G chipset with an integrated Helio M70 modem that includes Arm Cortex-A77 cores and a Mali-G77 GPU. In addition, this single-chip system is equipped with a neural APU 3.0 processor.
Earlier, Redmi announced that its first 5G smartphone will not be released until 2020.
