According to Gartner analysts, outdoor cameras will be the largest market for 5G Internet of Things (IoT) solutions worldwide over the next three years. In 2020, these cameras will account for 70% of the deployed 5G IoT endpoint database. However, their share will gradually decrease. By 2023, it will be reduced to 32%, skipping the automobile segment in first place.
In terms of absolute indicators, it is expected that in 2020, 2.5 million outdoor surveillance cameras with a 5G IoT connection will be installed, and by 2023, the total number of installed outdoor surveillance cameras with a 5G IoT connection will reach 15.8 million. Cars with 5G connection in 2020 will be 0.4 million units, and in 2023 – 19.1 million units. In addition to cameras and cars, 5G IoT connection will be used by telematics devices in transport (their share in three years will increase from 4% to 11%), payment devices inside vehicles, emergency devices and others (their total share in three years will increase from 14% up to 17%). The total number of 5G IoT endpoints from 2020 to 2023 will increase from 3.5 million to 48.6 million.
