France will not obey the United States and allow the Chinese company Huawei to participate in the construction of the 5G network. In this case, all equipment manufacturers will be checked for potential security risks. This was announced today by Agnes Pannier-Runacher, who holds the post of junior minister of economy of France.
“We are not targeting a single equipment manufacturer,” she said in an interview with BFM Business TV. “There are no exceptions.”
“In France there are three equipment manufacturers. Huawei has 25% of the market, there are also Nokia and Ericsson. Samsung is not yet operating in France, but is also interested in 5G, ”the source quoted the minister as saying.
“The government will not exclude anyone. “We are not following the position of the United States,” added Agnes. “We will consider each case.”
Telecommunications operators will need to obtain permission from the Prime Minister for their 5G networks projects. This will take into account national security considerations.
Arcep, the French telecommunications regulator, launched the long-awaited sale of the 5G spectrum last week.
