MediaTek has a 5G modem and a single-chip system containing such a modem. However, the MediaTek 5G SoC is not yet present in any serial consumer device, so it is unclear how productive it is and in which segment it plays.
But data has already appeared on the company’s new product. It is reported that next year MediaTek will introduce another seven-meter single-chip system with a 5G modem, which will definitely be aimed at the middle price segment.
This SoC, which will receive part number MT6873, will be cheaper than MT6885 (5G SoC), and the crystal size will be 25% smaller. In this case, the source says that the architecture will remain the same, but it is not very clear what is meant. Probably, we are talking about preserving the Cortex-A77 cores and the Mali-G77 GPU, only in a different configuration.
The new platform should appear in smartphones in the third quarter of next year, but 5G SoC in the first quarter.
