Apple led the smartphone market, ahead of Samsung and Huawei

Great sales of iPhone 11 helped.
Recent data from the IDC research company indicates that global smartphone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2019 amounted to 368.8 million units, which is 2.9% more than in the previous quarter, and 1.1% year on year.

Interestingly, in the fourth quarter, Apple took first place with a share of 20%, the second went to Samsung (18.8%), followed by Huawei (15.2%), Xiaomi (8.9%) and Oppo (8.3 %). However, this data reflects the market position for only one quarter.

The five leaders for the whole of 2019 looked like this:

  • Samsung (21.6%)
  • Huawei (17.6%)
  • Apple (13.9%)
  • Xiaomi (9.2%)
  • Oppo (8.3%)

Xiaomi head Lei Jun noted that in the fourth quarter of 2019, Xiaomi became the fourth largest smartphone supplier in the world, improving last year’s rate by 31.1% and occupying 8.9% of the global market. He promised that 2020 Xiaomi will work even more actively.

As for Apple, the surge in sales in the fourth quarter is due to the success of the iPhone 11 line.
