Android smartphones are in danger again. Google has closed critical “holes” in Android, but manufacturers are in no hurry with updates

Google has released the latest security update for the Android operating system, which closes two critical and dozens of smaller vulnerabilities. Fixes are included in the June Android security update.

Currently, the June Android security update is only available for the Google Pixel series smartphones and some of the few Samsung Galaxy models, including the Galaxy S20, S10, Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy Z Flip.

The main danger is critical vulnerabilities with the numbers CVE-2020-0117 and CVE-2020-8597, since they allow attackers to remotely run malicious code on a device with very high system rights. They affect devices based on Android 8.0 and 8.1 Oreo, Android 9 Pie, Android 10 and are present even in the latest test builds of Android 11.

In total, Google closed at least 34 vulnerabilities in the June update. Some of them relate only to Qualcomm-based SoC devices. Nevertheless, as soon as the update with corrections “flies” to the device, it is worth installing it immediately.
