The next innovation AirPods after the noise reduction system may be a pressure sensor. According to a source, Apple has already filed a patent in the North American office.
The meaning of the pressure sensor is to completely eliminate the possibility of false switching on the headphones in case of accidental contact – it will work more accurately than the accelerometer and the optical sensor. Headphones will be activated according to the sensor – based on the pressure difference inside the ear canal and outside it. Only after this difference is fixed, a Bluetooth connection with the smartphone is established and, in fact, music starts playing.
Of course, if the pressure sensor readings prevail over the data of the optical sensor and accelerometer, no false positives (and the subsequent battery discharge) of the AirPods are scary.
