The 5G-PICTURE project is part of the Horizon 2020 European program.
ADVA announced that it has successfully demonstrated Europe’s first 5G rail deployment. The combined solution using fiber optic and microwave channels provided the ability to connect at a speed of several Gbit / s in trains moving at high speed.
According to ADVA, the transmission of a cell-to-cell connection necessary for a normal broadband connection on high speed trains has been a serious problem to date. The demonstration showed how this problem can be solved using ADVA G.metro passive optical technology, FSP 150 aggregation solutions and millimeter-wave access points (mmWave). The solution was demonstrated at the sites connecting the three stations in Barcelona by ADVA, Blu Wireless Technology, CNIT, COMSA Industrial and the local railway operator and infrastructure manager Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) as part of the 5G-PICTURE project, which is part of the European program Horizon 2020.
