In European retail, a 18 TB Western Digital hard drive is seen. The WD181KRYZ 3.5-inch model is equipped with a SATA 6 Gb / s interface. It is part of the WD Gold corporate line and costs 650 euros.
The spindle of the new HDD rotates at a speed of 7200 rpm. There is 512 MB of DRAM memory for caching. Hermozone drive is filled with helium. Note that the drive uses not “tiled magnetic recording” (SMR), but the usual one. This means that the drive does not face a drop in performance under continuous load, observed in the case of models with SMR. However, there are no data on read and write speeds yet. It is known that HDD is designed for continuous operation.
A similar model of WD161KRYZ with a capacity of 16 TB is estimated at 582 euros. The lead time is 14 days. We’ll clarify that on the manufacturer’s website, the WD Gold line is ending at 14 TB.
